For me, online learning facilitation is being able to take advantage of the latest technologies that are relevant to the student taking the course. If it is a middle school class, it could involve a lot of social media integration, whereas if it were an Adult Continuing ED course, it might use some older technology that the student is comfortable with. The ability to tailor the delivery to the student demographic will help drive learner interest and maintain their engagement in the learning. We should be always thinking and asking "What's next?"
We were asked to provide a visual metaphor of what online communication and facilitation means to us at this point in the program. The following is mine. I found this image online while searching for the evolution of computer technology. The reason I chose this picture is because it pretty much sums up computers and online communication during my liftetime so far. Thank you, Felipe. It always amazes me to see a visual representation of the changes that have happened in such a short period of time. The question mark at the end indicates that there is more and we have no idea what that will look like at this point in time - it's the "What's next?" piece. As you have stated, it is important for us to be aware of our audience and to recognize that we need to meet them where they are. From this point we can help them grow and move forward. Where do you see online communication/facilitation heading in the future?
