My e-Portfolio highlights evidence of my competencies in reference to these aspects and includes self-reflections on my personal context for learning. Teaching is a profession, governed by a certifying body. My e-Portfolio clearly identifies my strengths and my capacity to teach and learn as a professional educator.
The theme of my portfolio is music. Music has been a passion of mine since I was born. It seems like education and teaching is like trying to conduct an ensemble. The conductor can stand up in front of the ensemble and wave his arms around as much as he wants, but if the players don't know what he is doing and why he is doing it, they become frustrated and lost. A teacher's job is like a conductor's. They must guide and cue the parts of the ensemble to success and create a community of learners that work as one. The different instruments in an orchestra are like the diverse backgrounds of students in the classroom. Each of them bring a different timbre to the group. Some are loud, some are quiet, some are deep, and others just like to...well...toot their own horn! As with music, there can sometimes be dissonance. As with music, this dissonance needs to be resolved. The goal with music as well as education is to create harmony between all the contributors. Only then will we create our own masterpieces.
